For the first time in an Italian public gallery a one-woman show is dedicated to Katharina Grosse, the German painter of international renown. Large-scale canvases, stones, balloons, piles of earth, walls, ceilings and floors: these are the old and new materials on which Grosse creates her works, redesigning the environment by transforming the context into a completely new architectural entity, a triumph of colour, a veritable three-dimensional   painting.
The show's title, Another man who has let his brush drip, conceals an ironic allusion to the painting technique (and male habit) of dripping and is at the same time a critical homage to celebrated painters like Max Ernst and Jackson Pollock.
Katharina Grosse creates work in an uninterrupted continuum without start or finish: she works with a compressor, which enables her to apply paint non-stop, and not just using the canvas. The artist's ceaseless quest for new materials and the vivacity of the colours she uses mean that she is able to achieve images in constant movement.
In the Palazzina dei Giardini pre-painted canvases will be positioned ready to be repainted with a further intervention on the part of the artist. The painting will continue on the wall, on the floor, all over the surrounding space, forming a continuum so that the images follow on one after the other without a break throughout the rooms of the pavilion.

Katharina Grosse was born in Freiburg in 1961 and divides her time between Düsseldorf and Berlin. She has had one-woman shows all over the world: London, Houston, Paris, Cincinnati, Porto and Chicago.
She has also taken part in collective exhibitions in Taipei, Tokyo, Helsinki, Santiago (Chile), San Paolo and Vienna.
